There's no such thing as "A" players

Every team member is expected to perform in their role consistently. If they struggle to contribute, this doesn't make them a "B player." Rather it indicates they are out of position. We can improve outcomes for the org and the person by doing two things.
1 - Review the working environment
Set clear expectations + provide adequate resources to get the job done.
2 - Assess the person's strengths
Verify the person is in a role that best utilizes their skills and capabilities.
A leader's responsibility is to put each team member in a position of strength.
